Coronado Springs Resort October 2013

Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort

By Bill MacBride

I recently stayed at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort while attending the Home Based Travel Agent Forum.  Some of my pictures from Coronado Springs are included in this post.  Most of my pictures are at http://www.pinterest.com/billmacbride7.   Coronado Springs is the only Disney Moderate resort with a convention center. It’s also the only Disney Moderate Resort with a fitness center, spa, and hair salon.  The convention center offers many rooms of varying size in a total of 220,000 square feet of space, all on one level.

Coronado Springs has no resort fee.  Ample complimentary self parking is available.  Guests can take advantage of complimentary transportation to Disney theme parks.  Free WiFi is available in guest rooms and all public areas of the resort.

The resort is very spread out with a large lake in the middle of the property, Lago Dorado.  There are three sections of guest room buildings; Casitas, Cabanas, and Ranchos.  The Ranchos section is farthest from the convention center and main building where the restaurants and front desk are located.  Fortunately for convention guests we were mostly accommodated in Casitas buildings 1, 2, and 3 which are closest to the convention center.  Some others were in Cabanas building 9B where the Business Lounge is located.

Dining options include the full service Maya Grill, a food court called The Pepper Market and quick service at Café Rix.  There are 3 bars; Siestas Pool Bar, Laguna Bar and Rix Lounge.  Gifts and sundries are available at Panchito’s.

Every Disney resort has a theme.  The theme at Coronado Springs is the desert Southwest and Mexico.  It’s very well themed and the landscaping is beautiful and immaculate.  The main pool area is called the Dig Site.  The theme is an archeological dig site in Mexico complete with a Mayan temple.  There are three other pools throughout the resort including the only lap pool at any Disney Moderate Resort.

The conference organizers did a great job with this event and Disney Cast Members were always there help in any way they could.  The presenters were all experts is their fields and obviously care about what they’re doing.  The conference was educational and fun. If they return to Coronado Springs next year I just might have to find a way to be there.

Coronado Springs is a convention resort but it’s also a family resort.  Don’t let the conventions keep you away from Coronado Springs.  Conventions just mean that the buses, pools and food court will be less crowded.  Conventioneers are in the convention center all day so you’ll hardly see them at all.
